A Knitting Revelation

I'm thinking of starting another Clapotis. Yes, I know I have numerous and sundry projects scattered about, but still . . .
In my search for some inspiration, I came upon this entry in a live journal (I googled) by someone named stacye13. I loved the look of her first Clapotis, and read down to see what kind of feedback she got. The revelation came when I read this comment, by this person - a_cherry_on_top, who has a knitting blog here :

Are you one of those people who loves thinking of projects and loves the completed projects, but hates the actual knitting process, yet has an almost compulsive need to forge forward? Cause that would be me!Knitting as meditation, my ass...

Yes, there I was, typed out by someone I never even met. I hope they don't mind me using their words here. I'm sure I'll find out if they don't.

I love thinking of all the wonderful projects out there, and I love to search for patterns and fiber. Needles. Wheels. Drop spindles. More needles. Hand balm. Books. Patterns. More books and patterns. You get the picture. And when I get the stuff I finally break down and order, I start right away. Then it sits. And sits. Take St. Brigid for example. And the Old Friend Pullover. Sticktoitivness is not my strong suit. So please excuse me as I surf the net for some more clapotis inspiration.

This sounds like a close relative to the condition from which I suffer: startitis. I do enjoy the knitting part. But I want to knit everything and start things like I think I have the time.

I can relate to having "Project Startitis." I love looking at what other made, buying yarn, needles, getting things ready, etc.

Then, I end up abandoning so many things.

However, I do like the sheer process of knitting and crocheting as well, but I have to settle down first. Once I relax, I love the whole deal.

I'm working on my second Clapotis right now. I hated the pattern the first time around--boring. It's still not exciting the second time, but the yarn is more interesting.

Hmm -- that might explain your comment on my blog about my being motivated. I consider myself more of a short-attention-span type, so I have several things going at once and can work on the one that appeals at the moment. I actually enjoy the knitting part more than planning and looking for yarn & patterns. And my finished items (hey, they happen occasionally) often sit unused until I figure out who to give it to.

I'm with you on the knitting is not meditation time thing!

And thanks for all of your sweet comments about the wedding! It was absolutely perfect and amazing and I still can't believe that it was real. If I had it all to do over again - I would and it would be just the same, which I think is the best way to look back on a big thing like a wedding.

Yes, that lovely woman I'm with a lot is my Mom - she's long overdue for something handknit and I think I'll have to do something about that soon. Oh, and that tall blonde guy - that's my little brother! Well, not so little I guess - younger still counts though!

Catching Up

First things first - you might have noticed I've changed the name of the blog. Knitting NonPareil was appropriate at one time, but I don...
