An Old Friend . . .

(pullover) is ready to be bathed and blocked today! I finished the sleeves yesterday as we were tooling around Black Mountain and the general vicinity. Sometimes I really do love plain, old stockinette. So much, in fact, that my next "movie knitting" project is going to be the PeaceFleece Everyday Cardigan. More easy, mindnumbing stockinette. I should be plenty warm this winter. You know, because of all the low temps and big snows we have here in South Carolina.
I broke in my new KnitPicks needles last night, by trying my hand at the
Evelyn Clark Trellis scarf.

Again. The last time I attempted it the needles I was using weren't pointy enough, and that 7 into 5 thing was a bitch. And then I dropped a stitch and all was lost. About 3 different times. This time I used a lifeline (note to self: used UNwaxed dental floss next time) and finally made it though the beginning border lace pattern. I need to adjust my knitting here folks, because that 7 into 5 is still a bitch. The pattern suggests LOOSELY purling the stitches in the preceding row, so maybe I'll do just that. Next time. I'm still chugging along at it, but I'm just waiting to screw up again, and then I think I'll just burn the yarn and be done with it. As for the needles, they're great. They're wonderfully pointy, and the cables are thin and unobtrusive as you're knitting. I hate when I have to pay more attention to my circular cable than to my knitting. They are wickedly slippery too, which I love. I hate having to tug and pull the stitches around. I haven't used them on anything else yet, but I think I'll do a gauge swatch for the Everyday Cardigan with them.
I'm still recovering from the "vacation" with the grandsons. Last I heard, they were too! Here's what one does in Gatlinburg with 3 small, active, vocal boys:
There was:
learning

rough housing

swimming

bumper cars

putt-putt

looking

eating

posing

shopping

wading

resting

and finally, sleeping.

Thanks for the link to the lifeline video. I'd never heard of that, but I'm sure it will come in handy in the future.

great photo journal of time spent with the grandsons! and yes, sometimes there isn't much better than boring, plain stockinette.

Aww that bumper cars picture is adorable. Something tells me he's not going to be like his mom.
And why does the posing picture make your legs look a bit, hmm, Photoshopped? One has to wonder.

Catching Up

First things first - you might have noticed I've changed the name of the blog. Knitting NonPareil was appropriate at one time, but I don...
