For Mitten's Sake!

Knitting ahead. No, really! I mean it. It's finally turned cold here in the upstate (for a few days) and mittens were needed. Grandson #2 spent the night with me, and picked out a color he liked. Blue, naturally. I used the Dulaan pattern because they fit either hand. Kinda funky looking (to me) but they work. I used acrylic because I didn't have any superwash wool on hand. Okay, I've never had any superwash wool on hand, but there always seems to be some kind of acrylic hidden away in the stash.

Also on the knitting (and crocheting) scene are some dishcloths and drying towels I made. The dishcloths are just Lion Brand Kitchen Cotton, my favorite. The drying towels are floursacking with premade lace edging sewn on (the tea colored one) and a hand crocheted edging (the white one). I just crochet the lace right on the towel, as opposed to making it and then sewing it on. They make great gifts when you pair them with the dishcloths. I usually tie them up together with some raffia or ribbon.

And it doesn't end there! I hit a fat quarter sale at my LQS,
Heirlooms and Comforts.

I wasn't sure where my inspiration for the color scheme was coming from until I noticed this:

I gave blood for the Clemson/Carolina Blood Drive last week, and I'm still paying for it. I did get a free tee-shirt and a Chick-Fil-A coupon though!

Lastly, I ordered and rec'd my Fiber Trends felted clogs patterns, and the Peruvian Wool for Knitpicks. I couldn't wait to do something with all that bare wool, so I threw some in a pot with some orange Koolaid. I hadn't intended for it to be mottled, but I didn't bother to stir it much. I think it looks great, and it'll be felted in the end anyway.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving this week - bring on the pumpkin pie and whipped cream!

Cute mittens! I keep finding all kinds of acrylic here, too. :) I want to buy some superwash wool in a few days, though.

You crocheted that edging on the towel?! Wow! What a lot of work. It looks great!

Yay! Knitting! and fabric! and dyeing yarn! and giving blood! Some of those things I haven't done, and some of them I can't do anymore, at least until they figure out how to test for vCJD (human Mad Cow Disease) because I lived in Germany for a time when I could have become infected... over 24 years ago (sheesh... I just don't think I have Mad Cow disease). But I'm on my 4th pair of felted clogs in about 3 weeks.

Catching Up

First things first - you might have noticed I've changed the name of the blog. Knitting NonPareil was appropriate at one time, but I don...
