We're in Business!

Have card reader, will download! Let's start with vacation, and she who looked pregnant, but wasn't.
Although it doesn't look like it, she is wearing a bikini top. I'm just sayin', is all. Luckily, the view every where else was better. That's Crescent Beach, near St. Augustine. Bee-yoo-tiful! Here's your everyday, friendly lizard. pet. thing. The view from our room:Lovely fence, I know. It was there to keep people off the dunes. The view from the drawbridge in St. Augustine:
There was some knitting on this vacation. I only took one project, thinking I would find a store and some more lovely yarn. Alas, it was not to be. But here is the start of #2 Jaywalker sock, right at A1A! Actually, the road sign says US 1, but you get the idea.Is anyone still awake out there? I'll leave you with the Miata's replacement, the new Toyota Solara. Never mind - blogger doesn't want my Solara pic! Maybe later!

I Can't Believe I Lost The Camera Cord

But all is not lost - I'm going to get a card reader tomorrow. Because I can't download pictures, I have to tell you things. Vacation things.
1. It was hot.
2. I rode Soarin' and Mission:Space at Epcot.
3. The latter was a bad idea.
4. I snorkled off the Dry Tortugas.
5. Tortuga means turtle.
6. I ate sushi.
7. I drank Kirin for the first time.
8. I picked a crab for the first time.
9. I rode from Clemson, SC to Key West in a Mazda Miata, and back again.
10. He traded it in for a bigger car today.
11. Saw The DaVinci Code and MI3.
12. Drank Yueng Ling beer.
13. Saw a pregnant woman wearing a bikini.
14. Turns out she wasn't pregnant.
15. I broke out in hives one night. Bad hives.
16. I almost finished the second Jaywalker.
17. I didn't buy any souvenirs.
18. I didn't get to one freaking yarn or fabric store.
19. I got early birthday presents.
20. One of them was an RCA mp3 player.
21. I love it.
22. Glad to be home!
Okay, if anyone is still reading, I have a question. I want to make a nursing pillow, like a Boppy. Has anyone done this? I found this great link to Jan Andrea, and I think I may give it a go. I am also thinking of making the baby slings. Anyone ever use one of these?
Update on babies Daniel and Luke: They're both just under 2 lbs. now, one is at 68% for his "age", and I forget what the other one is - maybe like 43%? The doctor was assuming they would be larger because my daughter has diabetes, but they're on the small side. She gained 2 lbs. last month, and all but 3 oz. was baby weight. I saw the latest sonogram (ultrasound?) of them, and they looks so cute. Relatively speaking.
Hopefully I can get a card reader soon, so I can thrill you with my vacation pictures!

Postscript to a Party

And here she is, the birthday girl!

Happy Birthday Kelly!

In spite of how this cake looks, we really do like her! I made her this, filled it with different coffees, and some lemon-poppyseed scone and muffin mix!

I didn't really throw it down on the ground, but I was trying to get a picture of it right before I left for work. Late, as usual. I'm hoping it's much cuter in real life.
I'm going to try to blog while on the road this coming week. Just so I can brag that I'm not working.
Hopefully, this will be my view:

PS - Oh, and after I burned 2 of the layers for the cake (out for the squirrels now!) I decided to start spinning - for my own solace. I am LOVING that merino/silk! The sheen is beautiful!!

A New Species of Bird

Blogger Fodder. Yeah.
These are pictures I took at my sister's house last summer. Yes, that's a frog in the bird house, about 6 ft. off the ground. I wonder if he's still there?

Blast from the Past

I can't seem to get it all together these days. I keep thinking I have blogger fodder, then nothing. So we're starting off here with an oldie. Here I am, all orange-haired and square-necked in Charleston last July. I'm holding up the socks I made for my sister in MI. I bought the yarn here, so I thought it was only appropriate that I showcase the socks here. KNIT has since moved (to 87 Wentworth Street), but I haven't visited the new location. For some reason, I tend to get bad vibes from most yarn stores. What's with all the snootiness? Did it ever cross your mind that I just didn't want any yarn that day? That your sale yarn was the ugliest stuff on the face of the earth, and no price was worth it? Anyway, KNIT is not one of those stores. They don't care if all you do is go around touching stuff and looking at patterns. They understand when you say that you can't afford a $300 sweater kit that for a sweater that you wouldn't pay $5 for at the Goodwill Store. In fact, the owner (oops, what's her name again?), who is a free-spirit (in my opinion) actually gave me some parts for my swift, which came from Pearl's in the mail without all it's parts. Pearl's. sigh. That's another story. And she didn't charge me. I'd buy yarn from her all day long. I recently visited a yarn store outside Asheville, NC which didn't please me. I won't complain here, but I won't go back. BUT - I did find a little shop in the Grove Arcade (downtown Asheville) and a delightful spinner, knitter and raiser of sheep (and children). I believe her name is Lisa Mackey, of Mackey's Acres in Candler, NC . I bought this at her store:
It's a merino/silk blend. Perfectly yummy in all ways. I can't wait to spin it up, but it'll be after vacation. sigh. The only problem with this is that I have a slight allergic reaction to silk. If I rub my eyes after touching it, they get red and itchy, and the whites of my eyes swell. Not attractive. In fact, they're itching now. I"ll get over it, I'm sure. And yes, that is my desk. I can't seem to blog at home. I keep telling myself it's because I'm too busy cleaning, but we all know better.
I'll be out of pocket next week while we vacation. I thought about taking the laptop, but it belongs to work, and with my luck it would get stolen.
We're heading to St. Augustine, FL, Epcot, Key West and the Dry Tortugas. I'm ready now!
PS - Amanda, I love the Wacoals! Now I need to look for the Chantelle!

I Warned You

I told you I was obsessed. Possessed. Gullible. Easily influenced. Whatever. Because of Amanda's May Day blogging, I was forced to go out and find 2 of thesefrom this manufacturer. People, you don't need Oprah to tell you about bras - you have me. I found 2 Wacoal bras in TJMaxx (just like Amanda said I would), for $12.99 each. The original price tag said $54.00. Do you really think someone actually pays that much for a bra?? I usually just wear my 18-yr.-old niece's V.S. hand-me-downs (thanks Em!). When they're too small for her or whatever. How depressing.

It's My Obsession

I just can't help myself. I see something, I have to have it. Like these:My daughter was checking out knitting blogs (go Jesse!) and found them here. Which is why I made this, too:The second picture is closer to the true color of the fabric. This is all Caitlyn's fault. And Jessica's. Because of that, I am linking to Caitlyn from my incredibly popular blog, and Jesse gets the purse. The cookies are really easy to make, and incredibly delicious, but the bag was not. First of all, I let the women in my LQS (local quilting store) talk me into using a very thick, stiff interfacing for the purse, which it didn't call for. I'm easy, so sue me. It was a mistake. It turned out okay, but not great. I will make another one, but not with interfacing that stiff. By the way, this is the pattern. It's Amy Butler fabric, too. I'm really getting into this retro fabric thing. Stop me now, someone!
I'll leave you with a shot of some of my cool vintage buttons. And Sister Betsy, I don't want to hear it - you got the pinking shears!

I Have Been Remiss

in my sock description! Yes, that is a Jaywalker. One Jaywalker. I love the way it fits - it's snug. No falling down socks here! Now if I could only bring myself to finish the other one.
I've really been on a sewing binge lately. I should be on a cleaning binge, but noooooo . . . . .
I finished the baby quilt for today's baby shower -
and I have another that I started about 6 years ago (when I thought the first grandson was perhaps a female) and abandoned for Thomas the Tank Engine. And then there's the one I started putting together about 6 years ago, just for grins. So I've picked them all back up again, and we'll see where we go from here. I did start a crocheted ripple baby afghan, in white, but no pics.
Here's a shot of the boo-boo bunny I made for the new (not-born-yet) baby:and the lollipop favors for the shower:Seems to be a bit of a blue theme going on here, don't you think?

Catching Up

First things first - you might have noticed I've changed the name of the blog. Knitting NonPareil was appropriate at one time, but I don...
