Gauge Revisited

I had some great suggestions about achieving gauge with Thermal, and the designer even wrote to me about the problem. Here's what she has to say:

Hi Theresa,
Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner! I'd originally put in the gauge as in stockinette, which is what I swatched in - it's the same as in the waffle pattern. So it might be easier for you to swatch in stockinette, at least in terms of measuring your gauge. You should wash and block the swatch before measuring - the wool and silk definitely expands, so it should become looser after washing.I am a loose knitter, so don't worry if you need to go up a couple of needle sizes!cheers, laura

Thanks Laura! I'm swatching again, so we'll see what happens.

Beverly - listening to books makes you sleepy? I had to laugh, because actual reading makes me sleepy! Listening is much easier for me. Plus, I can knit and walk and "read" a book at the same time. Which reminds me, my doctor once asked me what I did to relax, and I told her that I liked to knit, read, and take walks, all at the same time. She replied that I wasn't relaxing, I was multi-tasking. Call it what you will, it gets the job done!

Reading makes me sleepy, too. I like to read a chapter or two in bed at night to help me fall asleep more easily.

You know, knitting sometimes makes me sleepy! Combine knitting with riding in the car, and I'm out in no time!
