Mental Health Day

Well, one week of marriage under my belt and I had to take a mental health day from work. ha! Actually the married life is just the same as the unmarried life, but I get to say "husband" a lot. And I do! The mental health problem was the mess my house was in, and J's parent's are coming down on Monday to spend the week. We've been gone so much, and I'm supposed to go to Atlanta this weekend, sigh. I hate it that I worry about the mess, and even more that I can't keep it neat and clean. We're still in the process of moving in (3 mos. later) and I still don't have a place for everything. What I truly dislike is working all day, then coming home and working all evening. By the time I sit down to knit, I'm too tired, and it's time for bed.
Enough whining.
For those of you who don't live in cotton country, I'd like to show you what passes for snow in South Georgia.

Can you see it? I suppose it looks like someone dumped their trash, but I was using my imagination to make it look like snow. Who knew? This is my first cotton season and harvesting, so I was clueless. I guess when you have this on either side of the road, you should expect something!
Lately, I've seen this:
Big bricks of cotton. REALLY BIG bricks of cotton, like the size of a single-wide trailer.
I have been doing some knitting and sewing, but haven't been taking pictures of it. I still can't believe I made baby presents and gave them away before I took pictures. Doh!

I did make some bread yesterday, because it was calming to my nerves. Not really, but it seemed like fun. It's the no-knead bread recipe from Mother Earth News, although you can find it here, too, along with tons of other places. We ate the first loaf, made with regular AP flour last night. John loved it, but I guess I'm still a Wonderbread kind of girl. This morning I baked the second loaf, made with whole wheat flour (what the heck was I thinking when I bought WW flour? I don't even like it!). It came out great, and hopefully it'll taste just as good. I am NOT a bread maker, as much as I'd like to be. Mine never turns out good, just either flat or gooey, so this was a treat. And it's so easy. I have two old Club hammered aluminum dutch ovens, so I used those. I was worried about the knobs, but figured since they were so old they were fine, which they were. You really need to try some!

I have been wanting to try this bread recipe. I think I will try it now that I have met someone that has and had good luck with it. I love Mother Earth news -- the best magazine subscription I ever bought.
